We would rather integrate than imitate.

Kestrel owns the student record. It does not own your ledger, your timetable engine, or your alumni database, and it never will. This is the whole map, including the parts we deliberately leave alone.

The record is ours. The specialisms are not.

A school information system that tries to be an ERP ends up mediocre at eleven things. The rule we hold to is simple: if the data is about a person at your school, it belongs on the record and we own it. If the work is a specialism with a better product already serving it, we hold the data that feeds it and hand the work over.

This has one uncomfortable consequence we accept: Kestrel will never win a feature comparison against a vendor who ticks all the boxes. It will win when the ticked boxes are checked against what a school runs.

The API is public and its documentation is ungated: no partner programme, no sales call to read the reference. OAuth 2.0 with scopes that follow the same record classes as the permission model, so an integration granted attendance cannot reach counselling notes. Bulk export is a supported path.
